Responsibilities
Responsible for serving as Medical Director and Champion in raising support and awareness of Mission Control objectives and ensuring that clinical operations meet standards of quality care focused on ensuring seamless patient care, capacity management, efficient patient throughput/flow and improved access. An incumbent collaborates as a dyad partner with the Market Director-Mission Control, the Market Chief Medical Officer, and the Market Chief Nursing Officer, and provides oversight/guidance to Mission Control Physicians on Duty (PODs). This role includes clinical time, serving as a Physician on Duty for Mission Control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates Mission Control-driven problem-solving, serving as Medical Director and Champion raising support and awareness of Mission Control objectives and operations.
- Oversees a Physician Coalition (MC-PODs) which will set unified standards of professionalism and responsibility for the care and flow of patients across all inpatient facilities.
- Brokers market-wide service agreements to create a unified set of patient care and patient placement/flow standards (e.g. admissions and transfer protocols).
- Develops, monitors and enhances policies, procedures and operating mechanisms as they relate to Mission Control.
- Defines metrics and applies analytics for Mission Control that help to predict issues or resolve concerns.
- Identifies and sponsors process improvement or research programs based on observations in Mission Control.
- Evaluates the efficiency of patient placement/flow models; prescribes transformational alternatives using data to support recommendations.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience Required:
- Ten years of hospital and/or clinic-based clinical work experience.
- Preferred: Broad work experience (e.g. urban emergency department, outpatient clinics and/or hospital-based quality work) and/or experience as a medical director managing multidisciplinary teams in caring for high-risk, medically complex patients.
Minimum Education Required:
- MD degree, including completion of GME residency training program and Board Certification in the related medical specialty.
Minimum Licensure Required:
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Arizona.
Special Skills Required:
- Knowledge of modern theory, principles, standards, practices, technologies and management/clinical operations relating to the assigned specialty field (e.g. Mission Control) sufficient to support care decisions across the care continuum for all patients.
- Knowledge of the content, intent and application of regulations, policies, standards, operations and requirements applicable to the Mission Control function.
- Knowledge of qualitative/quantitative evaluation and analysis, advanced quality/performance improvement program development/implementation and clinical risk management.
- Knowledge of medical informatics, applied statistical techniques and analytical tools/processes.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of the functionality, application and use of general health care information systems technologies sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of health care reform initiatives and legal issues pertaining to health care.
- Ability to develop key performance measures, both for quality and business outcomes.
- Ability to understand financial and or operational reports, analyze data, draw appropriate conclusions, identify improvement opportunities and implement effective responses.
- Ability to convey information effectively in verbal and written communication, and through group/business presentations and meetings.
- Ability to create change through influence and exercise strong persuasive abilities in order to strengthen clinical partnerships.
- Ability to strategize, develop and evaluate business plans, initiatives, standards, budgets and policies/procedures.
- Ability to identify compliance deficiencies and/or systemic weaknesses and implement timely corrective action to forestall or remedy.
- Ability to use automated systems/applications/software and office equipment at an acceptable level of proficiency.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.

Pay Range
$62.51 - $90.64 /hour
