Redefine excellence in your career as a Hospital Medicine Physician in Canton, Ohio

At Canton, Ohio, we strive to deliver “better” to our community—better care, better collaboration, and a heartfelt dedication to those we serve. Let’s start a conversation if you’re seeking a role that fosters professional growth and community connection.

People First in Canton

Local Team Collaboration:

  • At Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, our strong, collaborative team includes 21 physicians and six advanced practice providers (APPs), with the support of a clinical performance nurse and hospitalist coordinator.
  • Our providers come from places worldwide, including Palestine, India, the Philippines, and the United States (OH, PA, MI).
  • Our providers are members of numerous committees within the organization. These include infection prevention, clinical documentation excellence, inpatient sepsis, pharmacy and therapeutics, patient safety, antimicrobial stewardship, and a readmission committee.
  • The group meets for a team huddle every Tuesday and Friday at 8 a.m. Most of the time, leaders from other departments give us 10–15-minute teaching topics. We also have a one-hour team meeting monthly where the providers vote on any changes to our workflow.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified/eligible in family or internal medicine.
  • We proudly sponsor H1b and J1 candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
  • New graduates, residents, and fellows are encouraged to apply.
Practice in the Heart of the Community

Flexible Scheduling:

  • We have multiple shifts available, including day, swing, and night coverage
  • Nine physicians and two APPs provide inpatient coverage daily (7 am—7 pm).
  • Two physicians work swing shifts to assist with admissions.
  • One physician and one APP provide night coverage (7 pm—7 am).
  • We have a seven on/off schedule but help cover for our teammates as needed. This is especially important to us as most providers travel out of the country frequently to visit their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • We welcome the challenge of complex cases, but Mercy Hospital’s ICU is closed to intensivists. The hospitalists are not responsible for codes or procedures; a team of ICU APPs covers all the codes.
  • Currently, we admit patients to the CCU with support from cardiology. However, this practice is supposed to change as the critical care team continues hiring more providers.
  • Our night team is responsible for working with the swing providers to see new consults in the ER and field transfer calls for patients transferring to Mercy. The APP handles the floor calls and is supported by the Medical Emergency Response Team, which handles all the code calls
  • After 4 am, the night team does not physically see new consults (unless urgently warranted). They are responsible for placing basic admission orders on the new patients between 4a-7a. The nocturnist is responsible for distributing the patients to the appropriate lists for the day providers.
  • A newly formed Medical Emergency Response Team comprised of ICU APPs provides 24/7 coverage for rapid responses and any other urgent overhead code, including code blues, strokes, sepsis alters, and violent patients.
  • We admit patients to the CCU with close cardiology and intensivist support.

  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
