Position Overview:

Palmdale Regional Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Family Medicine Hospitalist to join our academic hospitalist team. This role combines clinical practice with the opportunity to teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in an inpatient setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in hospital medicine, a commitment to evidence-based care, and a passion for medical education.

As a hospitalist, you will manage an average of 16-20 patients per shift in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. This is a daytime position (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) with a 7 on / 7 off schedule, offering an excellent work-life balance. The role includes working in a closed ICU and utilizing Cerner as our electronic medical record system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Care: Provide high-quality inpatient care for patients admitted to the hospital. Lead and manage patient care, including admissions, daily rounds, and discharge planning. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, specialists, and ancillary staff, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Teaching and Mentorship: Supervise and teach medical students, family medicine residents, and other learners on inpatient rotations. Lead educational rounds, case discussions, and didactic sessions focused on hospital medicine.Provide feedback and evaluation to learners, supporting their development and growth in clinical skills.
  • Scholarly Activities: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and scholarly activities. Contribute to curriculum development and innovative teaching methods. Present clinical cases and educational content at department meetings and conferences.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with developing protocols and guidelines for patient care. Participate in committee work and initiatives to improve hospital medicine services. Collaborate with program directors and academic leadership to enhance the learning experience for trainees.
  • Rounds and Patient Management: Manage and round on patients daily, ensuring timely and effective communication with specialists and other healthcare providers. Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Admissions and Discharges: Oversee patient admissions and discharges, ensuring appropriate documentation, follow-up care, and patient education.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with nursing staff, consultants, and other members of the healthcare team to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification/Eligibility: Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Licensure: Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in California.
  • Experience: Previous hospitalist or inpatient experience preferred, but not required. Recent graduates with internal medicine residency training are encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Strong clinical decision-making, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Certifications: ACLS/BLS certification required.

Work Schedule:

  • Schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 7 days on / 7 days off.
  • Shifts: Day shifts only, no night shifts required.
