Job Description

Last Update: 10/25/24

To our prospective team members,

I am the hospitalist medical director at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM, and have been with Sound Physicians since 2019. We are in the process of expanding our physician and advanced practice provider (APP) team. We welcome new graduates as well as seasoned clinicians. I want to provide insight into who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • We are a team of ten physicians and eight advanced practice providers.
  • We are a unique group of clinicians, with diverse geographic, educational, and training backgrounds.
  • We work closely with our colleagues in other departments to ensure a seamless transition of care.
  • We offer J1-visa sponsorship through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Conrad 30 and access to Sound’s in-house visa specialists as well as our licensing and credentialing experts; all required filing fees for the visa are paid and services are covered.
Practice
  • The hospital has a closed ICU, and our hospitalist team is not responsible for procedures.
  • Our hospitalist team is part of the rapid response team, and we attend codes as a courtesy run by the ICU team.
  • Our electronic medical records (EMR) are streamlined through Cerner and we also have access to our internal informatics platform.
  • Compensation ranges from $1,829 (day) to $2,109 (night) per shift. We also offer quality and productivity incentives.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • Patient care is our top priority, always.
  • We value and support growth and development in our hospital medicine practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team, deeply committed to supporting community health and wellness both within and outside the hospital. Our collective efforts make a meaningful impact in our community.

Albuquerque, New Mexico, offers an attractive blend of scenic beauty with the Sandia Mountains and Rio Grande Valley, a relatively affordable cost of living, cultural diversity, a thriving arts and cultural scene, a mild desert climate, abundant outdoor recreation, and a friendly community, making it a completing place to live.
