Job Description

Last Update: 9/20/24

To prospective teammates,

I am the medical director for Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Medical Center. I have been a part of Sound Physicians since 2023. I am proud of the hospitalist program we have built and welcome interest from physicians looking to join a practice to meet the needs of our wonderful community. We are seeking a full-time hospitalist to join our team who is open to work both day and swing shifts each month. I want to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider this opportunity:

People
  • We are a closely-knit, established team of 22 physicians and 2 Advanced Practice Providers. Along with myself as medical director, we have one residency program director, two clinical performance nurses, and one program manager.
  • As an academic and clinical hospitalist team, we meet the community’s needs and provide education to internal medicine residents.
  • Our team is highly diverse in education and experience, and we come from all over the world.
  • We have been partnering with Franciscan Health Olympia Fields since summer 2023, and we have already made great strides in improving patient experience, residency experience, and overall quality outcomes for our team and the hospital.
  • We value our collaboration with the nursing staff and specialists throughout the hospital. We participate in multi-disciplinary rounds daily, enhancing our relationships with each other and our patients.
  • As a team, we reconnect through monthly department meetings to discuss assorted topics and have a weekly team huddle.
  • Every team member is involved in a committee of their choosing within the hospital.
  • We proudly sponsor H1B physicians, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
  • Our team serves patients within our 214-bed hospital, and while a sizable portion of our patients are geriatric, we see a wide variety of diagnoses in adults of all ages.
  • We proudly serve as educators for 48 internal medicine residents, partnering with Midwestern University.
  • Our team often serves as clinical hospitalists and will see our own patients each day. On occasion, our hospitalists may work on the teaching service. This is on an as-needed basis and currently our teaching hospitalist positions are full.
  • Along with our team of physicians, we have two Advanced Practice Providers dedicated to our 18-bed observation Unit. Occasionally, our team will assist in the observation unit when needed.
  • Our team is not responsible for procedures; however, we will provide backup to residents who are first responders to codes and rapid responses.
  • Our schedule is predictable, as 7on – 7 off especially on our day shift. Our swing and night shifts can offer flexibility in the number of days worked in a block. Swing shift is 9 hours in length currently, and night shift is 12 hours in length. Our team is comprised of straight day shift hospitalists, straight swing shift hospitalists, dedicated nocturnists, as well as some Day/Swing rotating hospitalists.
  • Our goal is to have 15-17 encounters daily, including admissions. This can ebb and flow depending on the time of year and staffing.
  • We use Epic as our EMR system.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • Focusing on growth and development is a key feature of Sound Medical Group practices, where teammates can expand their careers locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We are a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
