POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of the Adult Hospitalist Associate Medical Director is to assist the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s) to develop and provide medical direction and leadership of the Salem Health Adult Hospitalist Program at West Valley Hospital.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1.

    SCOPE

    · Assumes responsibility for the Adult Hospitalist Program in the absence of the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s).

    · Provides direct patient care at WVH and SH as assigned by the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s) and in accordance with the policies of the Salem Health Medical Group Adult Hospitalist Program.

    · Assists the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director in developing an infrastructure and vision for the Salem Health Medical Group Adult Hospitalist Program at WVH.

    · Leads and manages the program’s APP’s in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s).

    · Serves as the professional liaison between the WVH APP’s and the Medical Staff.

    · Serves as member or chair of committees as requested by the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s).

    · Supports the Health System and Medical Staff policies pertaining to patient care.

    · Assists in revising existing policies and developing new policies as the need arises.

    · Ensures a high standard of quality patient care.

    · Coordinates peer review activities as assigned by the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s).

    · Coordinates with PCPs to improve transition of care.

    · Coordinates with Care Management, Nursing, and other ancillary departments to improve patient care.

    · Coordinates with specialty departments for co-management agreements.

    LEADERSHIP

    · Able to articulate the goals and vision of the WVH Adult Hospitalist Program from the perspective of the Health System and Medical Staff.

    · Ensures effective communication with ED physicians and specialists.

    · Participates or leads Medical Staff or hospital committees if requested.

    · Assigns hospitalist to other Medical Staff or hospital committees as needed.

    · Understands and supports the quality and business objectives of the Health System.

    OPERATIONS (in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s))

    · Ensures effective communication among all stakeholders.

    · Ensures medical records are completed in accordance with Health System and Medical Staff policy.

    · Completes performance evaluations of the WVH adult hospitalists in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s).

    · Participates in risk management programs or assessments at request of risk management representatives of the Health System.

    · Assesses individual hospitalist workload and recommends staffing changes to maintain sustainable and manageable workloads for the hospitalists.

    · Assesses referring physician specialty preference process and modifies process to account for changing preferences of the referring physicians.

    QUALITY MANAGEMENT (in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s))

    · Development and support of patient experience work.

    · Assist in grievance process.

    · Oversees collection of data for quality management purposes.

    · Identifies opportunities to improve patient safety and quality outcomes.

    · Presents quality data to WVH adult hospitalist team for discussion and action plans.

    · Develops tools such as practice guidelines, standard order sheets, educational modules or other interventions designed to increase the quality outcome.

    · Ensures tools/intervention is appropriately peer reviewed and approved by Medical Staff and/or hospital committee(s).

    · Oversees implementation of tools/intervention.

    · Adjusts intervention/tools as needed and completes quality improvement cycle process.

    · Participates in peer review/medical record review as requested.

    · Conducts periodic reviews of the medical records of patients admitted to the adult hospitalist service and provides informal feedback to physicians as necessary.

    5.

    FINANCIAL (in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s))

    · Assists with revenue cycle process including eligibility, credentialing, enrollment, coding and billing.

    · Identifies opportunities to increase revenue and decrease costs and participates in financial modeling of these new opportunities.

    · Provides feedback on physician compensation model and development of criteria to promote specific program objectives.

    6.

    PROVIDER DEVELOPMENT (in collaboration with the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director(s))

    · Assists in recruiting candidates for program.

    · Assesses knowledge and skills of all adult hospitalists in program and develops a plan for bridging any gaps in these areas.

    · Assists WVH adult hospitalists in finding educational and continuing medical education programs to enhance knowledge and skills which will compliment program needs.

    · Assists in mentoring and onboarding providers to WVH.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Essential Job Qualifications

    Education

    · Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine

    · Successful completion of accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

    · Board certification required

    Experience

    · Three (3) years of Adult Hospitalist experience

    · One (1) to Two (2) years of experience in a Leadership role preferred.

    · Demonstrate experience and current competency, to include the admission and/or provision of patient care for at least 60 hospital patients, including ED evaluations/admits, in the previous 2 years.

    Licenses/ Certification/ Registration

    · Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Oregon

    · Current DEA certification

    Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

    · Knowledge of Lean methodology highly preferred

    · Strong interpersonal skills; ability to be sensitive with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.

    · Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

    · Strong written and verbal communication skills

    · Spanish language as a second language preferred
