Job Summary
Job Description
To our prospective teammates,
We are Via Christi St. Francis’s medical director and assistant medical director in Wichita, Kansas. We’ve been a part of Sound Physicians for eight years. We are proud of the hospital medicine practice we’ve built. We welcome interest from physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) coming out of training or looking to make a career change. We want to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:
People
- We’re a closely-knit, established team of 26 physicians and 12 advanced practice providers.
- Our team comprises clinicians from a wide range of experience and diverse backgrounds who collaborate well and enjoy spending time together, inside and outside of work.
- Our day-to-day culture includes a team atmosphere in our large team office with a multidiscipline model of patient care. We work hard to take care of patients while genuinely enjoying the team.
- We want to keep the team involved and hear their opinions and voice when making changes within the team. We value strong work ethic and honesty, and patient safety always comes first.
- Many of us are active on hospital committees, including the medical executive committee, which helps solidify our relationships with specialists and our supportive administration. Clinicians can champion specific projects that help improve care, such as working to update current order sets.
- This is a J1 eligible position; you will have access to Sound’s in-house visa specialists as well as our licensing and credentialing experts; all required filing fees for the visa are paid and services covered
Practice
- We are a large community-based hospital with multispecialty support. We see a wide variety of diseases while still having specialists readily available. We can take care of patients from small rural hospitals that need a higher level of care, so they are transferred to us.
- The hospital is an open ICU with intensivist support. We seek board-certified/eligible internal medicine or family medicine physicians. ACLS/BLS certification is encouraged but not required.
- We perform admissions and cross-coverage and work with residents. The intensivist team performs all procedures.
- Our schedule is week on/week off with a Tuesday switch day.
- We work in Cerner with Dragon for dictation, with access to our internal informatics platform.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
- Our retention rate is high, and we work collaboratively within our team to ensure coverage for time off.
Purpose
- We put patients first. Always.
- We value and support growth and development in our hospital medicine practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.
- We’re a community-minded team and support involvement and contributions to community health and wellness in and out of the hospital.
- Some clinicians volunteer time in low-income clinics in the community or through the university. We also take medical students and residents on our service to provide volunteer teaching.
- Via Christi is a not-for-profit health system, so many resources are available for the uninsured or the underinsured.
