Job Summary
Job Description
To prospective teammates,
I’m the medical director for Ascension Borgess Pipp Hospital, located in Plainwell, Michigan. I have been a part of Sound Physicians for six years. I’m proud of the long-term acute care practice we have built and welcome interest from physicians desiring a part-time position. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:
People
- We are an established team of two physicians. On average, one physician works daily from 8 am – 4 pm.
- Plainwell is an agricultural community. It offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, kayaking on the Kalamazoo River, ORV trails, and golfing. Lake Michigan is 45 minutes away for those who enjoy beaches and boating on the big lake.
Practice
- Borgess Pipp is a 25-bed long-term acute care hospital. We care for an average of 8-14 patients. Procedures are not required; codes are rare, and the emergency department runs them. Borgess PIPP is well-run and has an experienced administrator and nursing staff. They see high-acuity patients who may require wound care, vents, and other inpatient rehab services. There is a pulmonologist who manages the vents. The day physician takes calls throughout the day until 7 PM and calls after 7 are routed to the nocturnist on call at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
- There are no team meetings here.
- We have a flexible schedule and cover for each other when we’re out.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
- We put patients first. Always.
- A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound’s practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
- We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
More about our community: People enjoy living in Plainwell, Michigan, for its small-town charm, friendly community atmosphere, and picturesque surroundings. With its convenient location near Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, residents appreciate the balance of rural tranquility and access to urban amenities.
