Job Summary
Job Description
To prospective teammates,
I am the medical director for St. Luke’s Memorial, located in Lufkin, Texas. I have been a part of Sound Physicians for five years. I’m proud of the hospitalist practice we have built and welcome interest from physicians and advanced practice providers coming out of training or desiring a career change. I want to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:
People
- We are a closely knit, established team of nine physicians and one advanced practice provider, with the support of a clinical performance nurse.
- We are a diverse group of physicians from different cultures, backgrounds, and training programs. It is a wonderful group of people with camaraderie and team culture. We are good at finding common ground and leaning on each other for support and knowledge.
- Our CEO and hospital leadership team are wonderful and incredibly supportive of our team and our goals.
- Many of our team members like hiking, fishing, and camping. We have two national parks and proximity to the Houston area for weekend trips.
- We proudly sponsor H1B and J1 visa candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
- We welcome the challenge of complex cases, working in an open ICU with intensivist coverage during the day and on call at night (our team is not expected to do procedures, but we do run codes).
- For those who like to teach, we work with medical students and have a small FP residency at the hospital affiliated with Baylor.
- We usually meet monthly for team meetings and have daily huddles with the team.
- Most of us like to spend time with our families or outdoors. We work a traditional seven on/off schedule, but we cover for each other when we are out.
- The yearly compensation is very competitive; you can earn $300,000+ as a clinician. We offer productivity incentives, and our clinicians can earn significant bonuses.
- I’m looking for a strong clinician who has integrity and will support the team we’ve built. We have internal programs to develop or fine-tune your leadership skills while connecting with a cohort of other emerging leaders. Internal and family medicine physicians are welcome to apply.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
- We put patients first. Always.
-
At Sound, we emphasize growth and development, offering teammates the opportunity to advance their careers locally and within the larger medical group.
- We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive. We are proud of our community and think you will love living and practicing here.
Lufkin, Texas, is often considered a great place to live due to its welcoming community, affordable cost of living, and proximity to natural attractions such as the Davy Crockett National Forest. Residents appreciate the small-town atmosphere, friendly neighbors, and diverse outdoor activities, making it an appealing location for those seeking a balanced and comfortable lifestyle.
