Our patients are able to receive cancer treatments that are not readily available in other parts of the state or nation. Through the Regional Cancer Center's affiliation with the National Cancer Institute, the University of Illinois, Chicago and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, our on-staff cancer specialists have access to experimental drugs and protocols. The Regional Cancer Center is also closely affiliated with the Hoosier Cancer Network, Inc., an organization that gives the medical staff and the patients of the Regional Cancer Center the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the academic world. When presented with a hard-to-treat cancer, the doctors present their cases to their peers in these organizations to ensure the best minds are focused on creating a treatment plan.

The building was designed with input from our patients. They noted the desire to see outdoors during lengthy chemotherapy treatments; they wanted a facility that didn’t feel sterile, but created a nurturing and comforting feeling. They wanted their own space, but with the option to talk with others during treatment, and they wanted space for their visitors as well. The design team listened.

The building features a fully glassed infusion room so patients and their guests can enjoy the sunshine and changing seasons outdoors. The Healing Garden features a soothing view. The floor tile is laid in a leaf pattern, while nurses’ stations, receptionist desks and soffits are curved, resembling leaves. The color choices are warm and the locally shot nature art is inspirational.
