The Gynecologic Oncology position combines an existing, thriving private practice in a multidisciplinary, full-service cancer center with an academic appointment. The Gynecologic Oncologist should be proficient in all surgical techniques related to the female reproductive system, as well as the organs of the pelvis and abdominal tissues which may be involved if cancer has spread. This proficiency should extend to understanding of cytoreproductive surgery and surgical staging, as well as radiation and chemotherapy treatments for gynecologic cancers. The Gynecologic Oncologist will routinely see patients throughout their treatment to include follow-up visits until a regimen is complete. The Gynecologic Oncologist must have strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills in speaking with patients, families and referring physicians. The candidate must be motivated, have strong leadership skills and an ability to build relationships with referring physicians. It is imperative that the Gynecologic Oncologist have a passion to help patients fight cancer and a willingness to provide strong emotional support. The Gynecologic Oncologist will also train and educate OB/Gyn residents, may train medical students and physician assistants, provide community education, and develop protocols and policies for the practice.
