We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Gastroenterologist for locum tenens coverage in Yakima, Washington. This role focuses on providing inpatient GI care, including consultations and procedures. The position offers a flexible schedule with 24-hour call shifts.

The ideal candidate is a skilled Gastroenterologist with experience in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including ERCP.

  • Provide inpatient GI coverage, including endoscopic procedures and consultative services.
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:
    • Upper and Lower GI endoscopy with biopsies.
    • Polypectomy, esophageal dilatation, and PEG placements.
    • ERCP (strongly preferred).
  • Manage inpatient consults (average 3–6 per day) and coordinate patient care.
  • Communicate biopsy results and manage follow-ups or referrals as needed.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia teams for procedures requiring sedation.
  • Document care using the Epic EMR system.
  • Trauma Level: Level III.
  • Practice Setting: Inpatient only.

Job Responsibilities

Provide inpatient GI coverage, including endoscopic procedures and consultative services.
Perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:
Upper and Lower GI endoscopy with biopsies.
Polypectomy, esophageal dilatation, and PEG placements.
ERCP (strongly preferred).
Manage inpatient consults (average 3–6 per day) and coordinate patient care.
Communicate biopsy results and manage follow-ups or referrals as needed.
Collaborate with anesthesia teams for procedures requiring sedation.

Qualifications

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.
Active Washington medical license or eligibility through IMLC.
Fellowship training in Gastroenterology (required).
Current certifications in ACLS (BLS not required).
Proficiency in ERCP and advanced endoscopy (strongly preferred).

Working Hours

24-hour call shifts with an average of 5–8 procedures daily.
1–2 weeks of coverage per month (ongoing need).
Includes up to 5 elective outpatient procedures per day requiring anesthesia support.

Skills

Proficiency in a range of gastroenterological procedures, including:
Upper and lower GI endoscopy.
ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic).
Esophageal dilatation and liver biopsy.
Ability to manage assigned inpatient cases independently.
Strong communication and collaboration skills for coordinating patient care.
