We are seeking a skilled and experienced Gastroenterologist for a locum tenens position to address a long-term vacancy. This role requires a board-certified or board-eligible physician capable of performing a wide range of gastroenterological procedures, including ERCP. The assignment includes scheduled clinical hours and 24-hour call coverage.
  • Perform inpatient gastroenterological procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies, colonoscopies, and ERCPs.
  • Provide efficient care for patients scheduled in the lab and manage on-call responsibilities with a 15-minute response time.
  • Handle routine GI procedures such as biopsies, polyp excision, esophageal manometry, and liver biopsies.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated support team, including 2 advanced practice providers (PA/NP) and 1 medical assistant (MA).
  • Supervise advanced practice providers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation using the Epic EMR system.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications

MD or DO degree.
Board Certification or Eligibility in Gastroenterology.
Skills Required:
Proficient in upper and lower GI endoscopy procedures.
Skilled in ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic).
Experience with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
Active and unrestricted medical license.
BLS certification is required.

Working Hours

10 days total monthly (5-day blocks Wednesday–Sunday preferred).
Includes 24-hour call coverage with procedural and inpatient duties during the day.
Call Details:
Beeper call with a 15-minute response time.
Call ratio of 1:4 with minimal call-back occurrences

Skills

Expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures.
Strong proficiency in ERCP.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with support staff and hospital personnel.
