Job Responsibilities
Safely perform GI procedures including but not limited to EGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, hemostasis of all types for variceal and non-variceal bleeding, stricture dilation, pH studies, PEG insertion and after care, paracentesis with ultrasound guidance, etc.
The Gastroenterologist will be responsible for consultations and progress notes for the official record of the Veterans' health care. The Gastroenterologist will assist in the consultation and follow-up of patients admitted to the facility. This provider will review medications, participate in patient education and coordinate with other services in the medical center as needed.
The Gastroenterologist will be expected to take an active role in the education and training of Medical Students and residents. This will include formal lectures and clinics and bedside teaching and will be responsible for appropriate completion of medical records, notes, etc., done by those being supervised.
Complete documentation and coding of visits accurately and timely.
Qualifications
Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.
