The VA Portland Healthcare System (VAPORHCS) in Portland, Oregon is actively recruiting a Gastroenterologist to help care for our Nation’s Veterans – America’s heroes.

This is an opportunity to join a team of accomplished academic gastroenterologists and hepatologists, nurse practitioners, nurses and other affiliated staff. All of the faculty are dedicated to the education of the next generation of health care providers, including Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) gastroenterology fellows, medicine residents, medical students and other health professional students. In addition to outstanding clinicians and clinician-educators, our faculty includes well-established physician-scientists with interests in clinical, epidemiologic and health services research covering a variety of topics, such as advanced liver disease and colorectal cancer prevention. The Gastroenterology Section provides a wide range of clinical services, including general and interventional endoscopy (e.g., ERCP, EUS, radiofrequency ablation), wired and wireless pH monitoring and manometry.

Job Responsibilities

The VAPORHCS is a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1a/high complexity, 277 bed facility serving 95,000 Veterans in Southwest Washington, Central and Northwest Oregon, including the rapidly expanding Portland Metro area. There are more than 300,000 Veterans who reside within the facility’s primary service area. This exciting job opportunity awaits you in our, state-of-the-art VA facility in the city. VAPORHCS is among the VA Medical Centers that have been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. In addition to an outstanding Gastroenterology Section, we have high quality general surgeons, interventional and general radiologists and gastrointestinal pathologists. VAPORHCS ranks 11th nationwide among VAs in grant support, with over 150 scientific investigators and more than 500 active research protocols, many in strong collaboration with OHSU.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
•Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.

• Board Eligible or Certification in Gastroenterology (or foreign equivalent)

• Medical Degree (or foreign equivalent)

Skills

It is expected the candidate will have expertise in the management of Gastroenterology or Hepatology diseases and disorders, including the performance of gastrointestinal endoscopy, and the skills and knowledge necessary to provide high quality, evidence-based care to Veterans across the spectrum of disease severity.
