Job Responsibilities
• Attending GI inpatient service and outpatient clinics, perform other procedures as appropriate and attend medical staff meetings; performance of chart reviews; coordinate with other providers regarding patient care issues; completely documenting in the electronic health record; perform history and physicals within 24 hours of request; perform outpatient encounters; document consult notes; and process new and renewal prescriptions
• Taking an active role in education and in the evaluation of the patient, deciding treatment/care options
• Serving on service level and/or facility committees as needed and participating in the facility peer review program
• Maintaining professional competency, courtesy and flexibility to provide the necessary services of this specialty to the population
• Participating in the expanded use of clinical video telehealth (VVC and CVT)/electronic consultation (e-Consult) to improve access to GI care
• Serving on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist facility in meeting established performance measures in the areas of Cardiology and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine
• Working closely with all staff to ensure compliance with National, Network and local performance standards
• Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
• Board Certification: Must be Board Certified /Board Eligible Gastroenterologist by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
• 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
• Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
• Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
• Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
• Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine
• The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed
