Primary Care Physician - Indian Health Service (IHS)

Santa Fe Indian Health Center – Santa Fe, New Mexico

Scope:

The Contractor shall provide Primary Care Physician services at the Santa Fe Indian Health Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as its three satellite offices in Cochiti, San Felipe and Santa Clara. The Santa Fe Indian Health Center primarily serves nine Pueblos: San Felipe, Cochiti, Santo Domingo, Tesuque, Pojoaque, Nambe, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara and Ohkay Owinge. Services include medical and dental, and in-house Pharmacy for patients. Santa Fe Indian Health Center offers several specialty clinics, including Pediatric, Family Medicine, Physical Therapy and Behavioral Health.

Expected Schedule:

  • Santa Fe: Sunday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., including evenings, weekends and federal holidays.
  • Satellite Clinics: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm excluding federal holidays

Requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited School of Medicine and possess a Doctor of

Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.

  • Possess a current, unrestricted state medical license from any of the 50 states or Puerto Rico
  • Maintain updated continuing education certificates.
  • Current BLS/ACLS/PALS

Expected Duties:

Primary Care Physician support to be provided shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Primary Care Physician performs clinical services, responsibilities and functions to include but not limited to medical history, physical examination, diagnosis of medical conditions of patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric, ordering of appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, if necessary.
  • Counsel and educate patients, families, community, and medical staff about health care.
  • Prescribe drugs and tests necessary to provide quality health care including the use of radiology and laboratory services.
  • Become familiar with and be guided by the Indian Health Service formulary and shall follow IHS procedures when prescribing drugs.
  • Participate in a continual process of quality of health care evaluation to assure the provision of quality services.
  • Strive for excellence in providing general family medicine medical services.
  • Comply with all IHS facility infection control and safety procedures, practices, and standards.
  • Coordinates efforts on behalf of the patient and family with other agencies or health facilities for admission to hospitals, alcohol/drug treatment rehabilitation facilities, Skilled Nursing facilities, including arrangements for Emergency Ground and/or Air Medical Transport.
  • of all outpatients seen and treated. Completes all Electronic Health Record (EHR) notes
  • Provides individual counseling on a continuing basis for common social and emotional problems.
  • Prescribes medications and treatment therapies, and coordinates efforts with nurses, and pharmacists

Background:

IHS is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The provision of health services to members of federally recognized tribes grew out of the special government to government relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes. The IHS is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for the Indian people. The goal is to assure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable personal and public health services are available and accessible to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The IHS currently provides health services to approximately 1.5 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to more than 557 federally recognized tribes in 34 states.

Compensation:

Base Rate $310 - 325k per year, based on experience and length of commitment.
