People First in Sierra Vista

Local Team Collaboration:

  • Our fellowship is an intensive 12-month long program designed to train board-certified family medicine and primary care specialty physicians who want to practice emergency medicine so that they have the knowledge, experience, and clinical competence to practice independently as an emergency medicine physician.
  • Our fellowship graduates will be eligible to sit for the Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (BCEM) exam through the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS).
  • Join our close-knit team of eight physicians and five APPs at Canyon Vista Medical Center

Qualifications:

  • You must be board certified (not board eligible) in family medicine or another similar primary care field.
  • You must have an Arizona medical license and DEA before starting the fellowship
  • You must have ACLS and PALS active certifications (American Heart Association courses) and ATLS (American College of Surgeons)
Practice in the Heart of the Community

Scheduling:

  • In order to complete our fellowship, you will be required to complete 10-12 months of intensive emergency medicine training, working an average of 14 twelve-hour shifts per month in our busy Level III Trauma Center emergency department.
  • You may be required to complete two 1-month away rotations in Tucson/Phoenix, specifically to receive intensive training in both Trauma and Pediatric emergency medicine.
  • Additionally, you may have to travel for 1-week long training courses in emergency medicine ultrasound and advanced airway techniques. All travel and lodging will be covered by the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality care in an emergency department with 40,000 annual visits.
  • Collaborate with a 24/7 specialty support team, including cardiology, OB, orthopedics, general surgery, and more.
  • Partner with Sound’s hospital medicine team for seamless patient transitions.

· In addition to your clinical work in the department, you will have extended emergency medicine board preparation requirements which you must complete on your own time. BCEM preparation online resources will be provided and paid for by the program.

· You will also have a 4-hour weekly didactics session that you will have to attend.

· Our program carries a maximum of 2 fellows at a time. We start one fellow on January 1st and another fellow starts training July 1st of each year.
