The Caldwell Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) is our largest and fastest growing outpatient clinic. We have 8 full-time providers, with 3 physicians, 2 Physician Assistants and 3 Nurse Practitioners. Each provider works with a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse/Medical Assistant, and receptionist to provide comprehensive primary care services to a panel of up to 900 patients. Expected appointment volume is 10 routine 30 min appointments, and 2 same day appointments used as needed in an 8 hour day. Panel management is supported by a team clinical pharmacist and by integrated behavioral health professionals. The Caldwell CBOC also has specialty services including eye care, physical therapy, simple wound, dermatology and joint injections.

The Primary Care Medical Director is the direct supervisor of the providers in the clinic and as such has responsibility for approving schedules, leave, performing annual evaluations, OPPEs, and FPPEs as necessary. Medical Directors work collaboratively with clinic leaders other than their own to promote best practices and to cover work duties when needed.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Works collaboratively with the Clinic Manager in organizing staff meetings and trainings, and furthering organizational goal and objectives at the clinic level.
  • Develops and approves provider scheduling grids in compliance with Boise VAMC Primary Care Scheduling SOP.
  • Assures that all modalities of care are leveraged to include video Connect Visits, Telephone visits, secure messaging and face-to-face visits.
  • Approves clinic cancellations timely, ideally daily.
  • Ensures adequate coverage of clinic provider functions when providers are on leave and approves leave in a timely, ideally daily, fashion.
  • Approves premium pay requests in a timely, ideally daily, fashion.
  • Performs OPPEs on subordinates and FPPE's as necessary.
  • Counsels and supports Physicians in support of Pay for Performance, and Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in their pursuit of Special Award for Performance and Step increases.
  • Supports Clinic Manager in efforts such as huddles, staff meetings, and performance improvement projects.
  • Fosters a collaborative work environment focused on maximizing the potential of team members.
