Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes featuring serene vistas, meandering streams, and diverse wildlife, this community promises a tranquil escape from urban living. Positioned at the southern edge of the Badlands, the reservation forms part of the mixed grass prairie, acting as an ecological transition zone bridging the short-grass and tall-grass prairies within the Great Plains. Rich in flora and fauna, including the endangered black-footed ferret, the area offers a vibrant natural environment.

The Pine Ridge Comprehensive Health Facility serves as the on-reservation hospital managed by the Indian Health Service. Spanning 110,000 square feet, the facility houses an inpatient hospital alongside outpatient and dental clinics, along with a surgery suite. The emergency department is staffed by two physicians, two physician assistants, and a hospitalist in triage. Additionally, the facility hosts the "Sick Kids" clinic, staffed with pediatricians. Notably, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospital bolstered its capacity to deliver respiratory and critical care, receiving support from the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health.
