Stamford Hospital is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to serve as Core Faculty with the Stamford Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in the Department of Family Medicine. The position reports to the Family Medicine Residency Program Director. The role is 60% time dedicated to residency responsibilities. An additional 20-40% time can be added in direct patient care in the Stamford Health Medical Group or the Optimus FQHC.
The role of the Core Faculty Member includes the education and supervision of residents in core teaching and clinical service delivery components of the residency. Core Faculty will foster the growth and development of residents in a practice-based learning environment.
The physician will serve as inpatient attending on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service sharing service and call on a schedule with the other family medicine faculty. The physician will also provide clinical supervision and teaching of residents at the ambulatory Family Medicine Center site on a schedule with other family medicine faculty (averages 4 half day sessions a week). The role also includes participation in Residency and Departmental teaching, quality improvement, research, faculty development and Stamford Health system initiatives (averages 2 half day sessions a week). Our Setting:
The residency is a 5/5/5 program located at Stamford Hospital with a FQHC based family Medicine Center that provides over 10,000 patient visits a year. We are affiliated with the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. Stamford Health is located in Stamford, CT, 45 minutes from New York City.
We also teach medical students from Columbia and the Frank Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
The Department of Family Medicine at Stamford Health has grown over 25 years to 50 physicians and APP’s, at 18 practice sites, 7 residency faculty, a 15 resident Family Medicine Residency program, an FQHC based family medicine center, and Center for Integrative Medicine. The department has trained a significant part of the primary care workforce in the region with 23 residency graduates who currently practice locally. Stamford Health has extensive relationships with community partners in affordable housing, food insecurity, behavioral health, and immigrant health. The department areas of focus include Point of Care Ultrasound, an Artificial Intelligence Innovation Lab, Health Policy, Family Medicine integrated specialty services, Procedural Services, Community Engagement, and Population Health.
Our Family Medicine Center is a part of Optimus Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center Network and one of the largest providers of primary health care services in SW Connecticut. It provides services for low-income individuals and families, including integrated medical care, mental health, preventive care, dental, and behavioral health (including substance use disorders) services.

Responsibilities:
- Provision of teaching and clinical service delivery for the residency program.
- Teaching and clinical supervision on the inpatient teaching service.
- Residency Precepting and clinical supervision at the ambulatory Family Medicine Center.
- Split time between educational, administrative, and clinical care responsibilities.
- Serve as a mentor and advisor to residents
- Participate in the selection, orientation, and evaluation of residents
- Contribute to the development of program curriculum and evaluation tools
- Promote family medicine and the residency program
- Provide appropriate levels of resident supervision to ensure patient safety
- Support policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements
- Participate in program evaluation and clinical competency committees
- Prepare and deliver structured educational activities
- Participate and mentor resident scholarship
- Participation in Residency and Departmental quality improvement, research, faculty development and Stamford Health system initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- M.D., ABFM Board Certification – Eligible or Certified, Medical staff Privileges, graduate of an ACGME certified family medicine residency program
- Medical Licensure in CT
- Demonstrated interest in the education of residents
- Passion for graduate medical education and family medicine
Preferred Qualifications:
- Special interest/expertise in informatics/AI, procedural skills, point of care ultrasound.
- Additional training in resident teaching/faculty development fellowship
