The city is also home to several cultural institutions, including the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, and a thriving local music scene, particularly in blues and gospel.

In addition to its cultural offerings, Jackson is an economic hub for the state, with sectors such as healthcare, education, and government playing key roles in the local economy. The city is home to Jackson State University, a historically Black university, and boasts several parks, lakes, and recreational areas for outdoor activities.
