The Opportunity
- Kaweah Health Graduate Medical Education (GME) and the Emergency Medicine Residency are currently seeking a GME simulation director who will also serve as emergency medicine (EM) core faculty.
- We are an ACGME-approved, 3-year residency program with 13 residents enrolled in each class (39 total). In addition, we are proud to have emergency medicine fellowships in emergency ultrasound and medical education/simulation.
- Kaweah Health Medical Center is a district hospital with 581 inpatient beds across the healthcare district.
- We are home to six residency programs and three fellowships. The GME program is affiliated with University of Southern California (USC) and we have undergraduate medical education affiliations with University of California Davis as well. Faculty members are eligible for academic appointments with USC.
- Our emergency medicine faculty is a bright and dynamic group involved in leadership positions throughout the health system, the county, and the state.
- This unique position is both an EM core faculty position as well as a GME director position that allows for collaboration and involvement across all our residency programs.
- As the simulation director, the candidate reports to the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with program directors from our residency programs to provide simulation and educational support for their programs
- Assisting in curriculum development across a diversity of medical and surgical specialties
- Supporting GME involvement and leadership in certification courses, such as ACLS and ATLS
- Serving as a faculty development resource as programs develop their simulation curriculum
- As EM core faculty, the candidate will report to the EM program director and will have the opportunity to guide and innovate the role of simulation within the longitudinal emergency medicine GME curriculum. Additionally, the candidate will:
- Coordinate simulation case education for the emergency medicine/transitional year didactic conference, at least once per month
- Mentor and educate senior residents who choose to pursue an elective in medical education and simulation
- Assist in the leadership of our Medical Education and Simulation fellowship
- Participate in other opportunities as a core faculty member for the emergency medicine residency, such as lecturing at resident conferences, leading faculty development sessions, serving as a mentor to individual residents over the course of their training, and pursuing research and scholarly activity opportunities
Required Experience and Competencies
- Must possess the requisite specialty expertise and competence in clinical care and teaching abilities, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities and experience in their field.
- Current board certification or board eligibility by the ABEMrequired.
- Must be able to be approved by the Kaweah Health department of GME, appointed in good standing to the medical staff, hold an unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of CA, and obtain appropriate faculty appointment in the medical school
- Completion of fellowship training related to medical education and simulation strongly preferred.
- Leadership capabilities, including excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Core faculty experience at an ACGME accredited EM Residency program may also be considered in lieu of fellowship training.

- The 6 current ACGME-accredited residency programs are: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, General Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Transitional Year.
