About USACS
Overview
board certified in emergency medicine. The program is recognized by the American Academy of Emergency Physicians.
- Clinical duties include 12-14 shifts per month in the ED. Fellows participate in didactic lecture series each Thursday, where they learn high-
impact topics to prepare them for EM Boards and future careers as EM physicians capable of working at any emergency room in the country. - We supplement didactic lectures with longitudinal Board Prep throughout the year so you will succeed on exam day.
- Special topics courses are scattered throughout the fellowship as well, such as an ENT skills course,
ortho and splinting course, dental emergency course, and multiple ultrasound courses to name a few. - Fellows also get to experience our unique fellowship seminars special teaching opportunities such as our Ballistics Injuries Seminar
at a large firearms center, a NASCAR Experience at the Talledega Speedway to learn about MVAs and traumas; a Snake Bite Symposium
taught by wilderness medicine experts at the Birmingham Zoo, and multiple EMS and critical care ride-alongs, just to name a few. The
curriculum also includes instruction on essential emergency medicine procedures, airway management, and ED bedside ultrasound.
- Fellowship graduates will qualify for written and oral exams to receive board certification
in emergency medicine (BCEM) by the American Board of Physician Specialists
