The Air Force Flight Surgeon serves as a medical officer responsible for the healthcare and medical readiness of aircrew and support personnel. This position combines traditional clinical medicine with aerospace medicine, emphasizing the unique physiological and psychological challenges of aviation and space environments. The Flight Surgeon provides primary medical care, preventive health assessments, and emergency medical response, while also advising commanders on medical standards, human factors, and safety protocols to enhance mission effectiveness. Additionally, the role involves participating in flight duties to understand aircrew conditions and maintaining currency in aviation medicine standards.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency patients.
• Deliver comprehensive emergent medical care including diagnostics and emergency interventions.
• Coordinate patient care with a multidisciplinary team and ensures continuity of care.
• Play an instrumental role in emergency preparedness, planning, and practice drills.
• Manage medical, surgical, and trauma emergencies and provide guidance to the healthcare team.
• Participate in and/or lead medical research and studies.
• Ensure all medical practices, policies, and procedures comply with military standards.
• Engage in continuous professional development and maintain an active understanding of the field’s advancements.
• Potentially deploy and provide emergency medical care in various locations and conditions.

Qualifications

Qualification & Skills:
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine.
• Valid and unrestricted medical license.
• Ability to obtain a military security clearance.
• Prior military experience or familiarity with military health systems is desirable, though not mandatory.
• Strong diagnostic, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a capacity to operate in stressful conditions.

Working Hours

Full-Time- various hours
