ER/IM/FM Physician for IHS Emergency Room, Eagle Butte, South Dakota (SD): 12-hour shifts (8A-8P and 8P-8A), any state license, 10K ER visits per year.

JOB DETAILS: ER Trained or IM/FM with ER experience needed to cover rural ER. BLS/ACLS/PALS/ATLS/DEA required, On-site housing, travel, and malpractice insurance with “tail” provided by Sequoyah Staffing.

Location: Eagle Butte, SD. 90 min drive from Pierre SD; about 2.5 hs from Rapid City SD and Bismarck ND.
EMR: RPMS, it is a very basic Gvt software, very similar to the CPRS used by the VA.
Pay and Benefits: biweekly direct deposit; compensation is specialty-based with Travel, Lodging, Rental Car and Malpractice. We do offer Loan Repayment Program to contractors who can commit to 12 shifts/monthly or more.

Work Environment: Indian Health Services Hospital, Rural Medicine, SD. 12-hour shifts, 8a-8p and 8p-8a
Low Annual Census Volume, 10-11k patients/year. Three shifts of PA/NP support staff (6a-6p; 10a-10p; 3p-3a); not a lot of Trauma; Minimum of 5 shifts in a row per month to provide travel coverage. On-site, paid Admin Orientation 2 days plus 2-3 shifts of clinical ER Orientation; Scheduling 2-3 months in advance.

Job Responsibilities

IHS is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, responsible for providing health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The goal is to assure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable personal and public health services are available and accessible to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The IHS currently provides health services to approximately 1.5 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to more than 557 federally recognized tribes in 34 states.
Our primary duty is to provide competent Emergency care in the ER at the Cheyenne River Healthcare Center in Eagle Butte, SD. The ER Physician must perform triage, assessment and re-assessment of patient throughout the visit. There is 24/7 on-site Laboratory and Radiology services (plain Xray films and CT w/wo contrast). No supporting specialties except for Pediatrics. There is a General Inpatient Unit to treat simple medical conditions, more critical patients and traumas get transferred to Rapid City, Bismark, Sioux Falls, etc. Transport via ground ambulance, rotor and fixed wing.
Housing is on-site, within walking distance to the facility.

Skills

Must be able to practice ER Medicine autonomously in a rural, austere environment. Contractor must be able to speak English fluently and be able to work as part of a team. All ER notes must be completed before the end of the shift and before the end of the Tour of Duty to ascertain prompt billing and payment.
