Location: Located two hours north of Des Moines, IA, and two hours south of Minneapolis, MN.

Opportunity:
  • A physician in the Emergency Department provides quality patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The duties of the physician cannot be rigidly defined, but the following description characterizes common expectations of the position. The primary responsibilities may not be interpreted to prohibit functions not specifically identified.
  • 2 trauma bays
  • 2 mental health/safe rooms
  • 1 specialty room
  • CT/MRI in department- patient never has to leave the ED
  • Bed-side ultrasound
  • Point-of-use supplies in every room
  • Approximately 1.6-1.8 patients/hour/provider; admission rate is 19%
  • Patient population: 15% Pediatric (ages 0-17), 30% geriatric (over age 64)
  • 8 FT, 2-4 PT/PRN physicians + 4 FT, 1 PT APPs
  • Nursing Support: 2 RNs assigned to each physician, 1 Rover RN/Paramedic, 2 Techs assigned to each physician, 24/7 Scribe coverage
  • Best consistently staffed unit in the hospital
  • Full-time is 144 hours/4-week cycle, about 14 shifts/month depending on how the month falls with the 4-week cycle.
  • Physician shifts are 7:00 am-7:00 pm, 8:00 am-5:00 pm, 5:00 pm-2:00 am, 7:00 pm-7:00 am. Physicians work an equal number of days/evenings/night shifts - schedule rotation allows enough time to transition between shifts. Single provider coverage is 2:00 am-8:00 am. MId-level coverage is from 11:00 am-11:00 pm.
  • Procedures include, but not limited to:
    - Ultrasound machine in department for provider to use
    - Central line placements
    - Chest tubes
    - Mid-line IV starts
    - Fracture reduction
    - Dislocation reductions
    - Moderate sedation
    - Laceration repair
    - Airway management
    - Place IO’s
  • EMR: Cerner (transitioning to EPIC in 2025)
