The ER physicians typically develop their own shifts, and generally work three shifts one week and four the next. In addition to working a full-time schedule, we offer a flexible staffing model, such as per diem, and part-time; working site visits are welcomed.
One of four rural hospitals in Aroostook County; the Emergency Department boasts the highest patient volume of all four hospitals. The majority of our ER patients are elderly with cardiac and respiratory complaints comprising a good portion of our visits, along with the expected primary care and emergent care visits. Our largest patient transfers consist of psychiatric, trauma, neurosurgical, and emergency cardiac catheterizations. We utilize the services of a fixed-wing air ambulance service with a 40-minute in-air time to Bangor, Maine, location of the nearest Level 1 Trauma Center and Cardiac Cath Lab.
The ER physicians are employees of the hospital and will be paid on an hourly basis, negotiable based on experience. The hospital will pay a portion of the health insurance for the physician and will pay the full amount of malpractice insurance.
