Cardiologist
The busy outpatient practice serves a large patient base and offers extensive outpatient testing, including 3-D echocardiography, nuclear stress testing, cardiac CT, and Holter monitoring. The cardiologists also see hospital consults on a weekly rotating basis and are qualified to interpret EKG, Holter, echocardiograms, and cardiac stress tests. There are 3 cardiac nurse practitioners in the hospital. Hospital which offers EKG, echocardiography, Holter monitoring, nuclear stress testing, ICU, and cardiac telemetry, along with cardiac catheterization and coronary interventions. Hospital, 5 minutes away, offers electrophysiology, open heart surgery, and structural interventions, but we do not routinely round there. Inpatient duties include consults from our Hospitalists, and may require placement of temporary pacing wires, management of CHF, dysrhythmias, acute myocardial infarctions, and acutely-ill cardiac patients.
- Main types of procedures or patients seen: Non-invasive cardiology position. Usual diagnoses: CHF, CAD, STEMI, Afib, cardiomyopathy. We have STEMI team, interventional and structural cardiology, TEE, pacers, LifeVest, stress tests, Holters. Pulmonary Embolism interventional team at the hospital.
- Our group offers nuclear cardiology, cardiac CT, 3-D echo. Open heart surgery available either 5 minutes away or electively in Boston in our network. Extraordinary cases can be sent to Brigham, MGH, St. Elizabeth’s in Boston.
- Average # of patients seen per day: 20 or so, with one half-day a week where you’d see around 10. On rounds at the 1 hospital we cover, there are cardiac NPs to help with rounds and see patients. You read EKG, echo, stress tests at the hospital when you are there.
- Currently 7 cardiologists, but 1 is slowing down and another is leaving at the end of the year (retiring). 3 hospital NPs, plenty of office MAs, nurses. Pacer reps around frequently.
