South Texas Health System Clinics is a multi-specialty branch of South Texas Health System with the mission of providing high-quality healthcare to residents of Rio Grande Valley. Established in 2012 as Valley Care Clinics, the brand has since grown from five clinics to 32. In February 2020, the name was changed to South Texas Health System Clinics to better align with its sister company, South Texas Health System. With locations throughout the Valley and telehealth visit capabilities, South Texas Health System Clinics provides patients with a wide variety of options for quality, compassionate care across several specialties, ranging from family medicine and outpatient rehabilitation to gastroenterology, gynecology and cardiology.
Located along the Texas-Mexico border, the four-county region commonly referred to as the Valley, is the third largest region in Texas. A multicultural and largely bilingual community, the population of the Valley now totals more than 1.4 million. It’s one of the fastest-growing regions in Texas and the United States. Once reliant on agriculture and world-class nature tourism, the RGV has been transformed into a major international trade area with first-rate commercial and manufacturing facilities, as well as numerous healthcare, retirement and higher education institutions. In addition, the region has become a shopping mecca, with several districts attracting millions of visitors each year.
The Valley’s dynamic population and economy, injected with millions of dollars annually by Winter Texans, older Americans from the northern parts of the U.S. and Canada who spend their winters in the community, has led to a steady increase in employment, particularly opportunities requiring higher levels of education. Heavy construction continues throughout the region, bringing thousands of jobs with the promise of sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metropolitan area enjoys a high quality of life with a low cost of living. It’s one of the least expensive metro areas to live in the nation (2nd in Kiplinger’s 2019 list). Residents spend less than the national median sale price on home purchases, as well as less than the national average on everyday expenses like food, transportation and healthcare. These facts, coupled with the area’s relaxed pace of life, safe neighborhoods, and welcoming communal environment, make the region a great place to live and raise a family. With three airports in the area, the Valley offers easy access to national and international destinations including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Las Vegas and Mexico City.
With year-round sunshine, tropical breezes and little rainfall, the weather is another key draw to the area. Temperatures are mild throughout the year, particularly in winter, with an average high of 85.9° and low of 65.2°, making it ideal for capturing the natural beauty of the Valley, including the beach at South Padre Island and participating in wildlife and outdoor activities like birdwatching, golfing and more.
