Anesthesiologist

Location: New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) – Albuquerque, NM

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly qualified Anesthesiologist for the Albuquerque, NM Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment while delivering high-quality care to our military community.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Certification:

• Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
• Accreditation: Degree must be accredited by one of the following:
  • Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association
  • Association of American Medical Colleges
  • Liaison Committee on Medical Education
  • Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association
• Internship/Residency: Must have successfully completed an approved program accredited by:
  • Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
  • Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association

Licensure & Certification:

• Board Certification: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
• Continuing Medical Education (CME): Provide copy of current CME
• Licensures: Must possess a current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Island.
  • DEA: Required for those writing prescriptions for controlled substances.
  • NPI: Registration certificate National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Basic & Advanced Life Support Certifications: (must be hands-on, through AHA or ARC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Experience:

• Have actively practiced as an Anesthesiologist for at least 3 years (preferred).
• The three years of experience must have ended no more than one year prior to application (preferred).

Additional Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship: Required
• English Proficiency: Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively
• Physical Capability: Must be physically capable of performing duties, including standing and/or sitting for extended periods
• Training: Electronic Health Record educational trainings completed annually
• Liability Insurance: The Federal Tort Claims Act does not cover Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s). When a Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s) has been identified as a provider in a tort claim, the Contractor shall be responsible for notifying their legal counsel and/or insurance carrier

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer anesthesiology services to surgical and clinic patients.
• Provide comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services including patients undergoing cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, and major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic and ophthalmologic operations.
• Provide clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal and radiological suites.
• Provide primary coverage for all patients in the surgical intensive care, short stay unit, acute and chronic pain management services, diagnostic trans esophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
• Provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
• Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Anesthesiology clinical or surgical patients.
