As part of the Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) clinical leadership team, a Site Director of Ob Hospitalists embraces the following focus on clinical operations: (1) Program Operations to ensure quality care is delivered, (2) Building and maintaining relationships with hospital medical staff, nursing staff and administrative leadership as part of a spirit of service to others, (3) Building and maintaining relationships with the physician and CNM Ob Hospitalist team, (4) Ensuring the assigned program is connected to the overall OBHG medical group network, and (5) Financial stewardship to ensure the longevity of the program. This position reports to a Market Medical Director (MMD), Medical Director of Operations (MDO) or Vice President of Clinical Operations (VPCO) and will collaborate with the MMD, MDO or VPCO to ensure the clinical team is delivering a quality program that achieves both OBHG’s and the hospital’s clinical and operational objectives.
The Site Director of Ob Hospitalists is expected to work at least five (5) 24-hour (or equivalent) OBHG hospitalist shifts each 28-day period during their employment as Site Director of Ob Hospitalists. The Site Director of Ob Hospitalists is also expected to travel to the hospital as needed to address hospital and hospitalist operational priorities. This travel will include dates when the Site Director is not working a clinical shift.

Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities: Essential

Program Management
• Oversee the delivery of clinical services by monitoring clinical outcomes and addressing outliers at the assigned hospital
• Orients new clinicians to our values-based culture and behaviors
• Ensure OBHG participation in clinical drills
• Ensure twice daily OBHG participation in Labor and Delivery board rounds
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure safe transitions of patient care
• Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and expectations
• Manage minor physician issues and escalate to the MMD, MDO or VPCO as appropriate
• Ensure 100% schedule coverage at the hospital
• Provide written and verbal status updates on the assigned hospital
• Participate in peer reviews or investigation of clinical incidents as requested by OBHG
• Serves as the physician/midwife champion for simulations and ensures the enforcement of hospitalist training requirements
• Serve as a liaison between OBHG corporate support teams and our hospitalists
• Drives nationally endorsed protocol implementation such as AIM bundles
• Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with key hospital program stakeholders (Manager of Labor and Delivery, Department Chairperson, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services) to:
o Discuss clinical performance of the team as a whole and specific team members
o Discuss strategic goals of the hospital and determine how the OBHG team can support these goals
o Discuss clinical performance of the entire department and determine how the OBHG team can help to improve overall performance
o Collaborate on program management with the CNM Director (at sites with OBHG CNMs)
• Communicate regularly with key hospital program sponsor (e.g. CEO, COO, CNO, CMO) to ensure that the OBHG program is aligned with hospital strategic goals
• Reinforce the clinical aspects of OBHG value at the hospital
• Actively participate in hospital meetings including but not limited to Departmental meetings, a written summary of pertinent information from these meetings shall be distributed to all team members and the MMD, MDO or VPCO
• Ensure clinical services are meeting hospital objectives and expectations by working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Departmental leadership
• Participate in program performance reviews
• Participate, or ensure consistent OBHG representation, in other pertinent hospital committees (examples include peer review, quality improvement, etc.)
• Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with each team member to determine satisfaction with the program and inquire about any concerns or suggestions for improvement.
• Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with the MMD, MDO or VPCO and share program information learned during meetings with hospital and team members
• Ensure the MMD/MDO/VPCO, Director of Operations (DOO), and Clinical Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) are invited to the team meeting
• Summarize the monthly team meeting (meeting minutes) and share this document with all team members and the MMD, MDO, or VPCO, DOO, and HRBP.
Talent Management
• Provides consistent feedback and coaching to clinicians
• Actively monitors and mitigates employee turnover
• Responsible for hospital orientation and shadowing of new Ob Hospitalists at assigned site
• Ensure consistent performance of clinical services in accordance with program definition
• Encourage and ensure hospitalist participation in overall quality initiatives
• Hold regular (monthly) team meetings by phone or virtual meeting platform. The Site Director of Ob Hospitalists shall not be working a clinical shift during this meeting time.
• Perform the clinical interview for new candidates within 48 hours of presentation of the candidate by clinical recruiting
• Responsible for attending and participating in the on-site meet and greets for new Ob Hospitalists
Clinical Practitioner
• Responsible for working at least five (5) 24-hour (or equivalent) shifts each 28-day period.
• Serves as program expert to Ob Hospitalist Group clinicians at your program
• Provides onsite support when requested and available
• Assumes all duties of an OBHG clinician when on shift
Business Development
• Collaborate with hospital leadership, MMD, MDO or VPCO and DOO to identify ways to increase hospital Labor and Delivery utilization
• Collaborate with hospital leadership, MMD, MDO or VPCO and DOO to identify ways to increase hospitalist program utilization
• Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure that the program is meeting the hospital’s needs
• Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure that clinical care is being delivered efficiently
• Collaborate with the medical staff to ensure efficient utilization of healthcare resources
Professional Development
• Participate in site and community discussions on Ob Hospitalist medicine
• Maintain professional certification
• Represent OBHG and Site in national, regional, and local conferences
• Ensure programs are meeting the needs for the community
Culture/OBHG Values
• Represent OBHG’s commitment and mission statement
• Actively role model the differentiated value of OBHG with site OBHG staff, hospital administration, and community medical staff
Qualifications
Essential Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
• OBHG hospitalist presently working at least five (5) 24-hour (or equivalent) shifts each 28-day period
• Board Certified Ob/Gyn Physician
• Highly relational, able to build strong rapport and positive working relationship with all stakeholders (hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and OBHG support staff)
• Team oriented, service minded, goal focused individual who believes in OBHG mission
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven leadership skills
• Able to attend regular meetings at assigned hospital even when not working a clinical shift
Preferred Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
Mental & Physical Demands
• Sitting for long periods of time
• Position also requires walking, standing, stooping or kneeling
• Regularly required to use computer keyboard, mouse and telephone
• Lift and carry objects such as books and files weighing up to 15 pounds
• Close vision work and ability to adjust focus
