**Medical Director - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) opening in Southeast Michigan**
Located in the Detroit metropolitan area
**Position Details**
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Surgery and Critical Care
- Practice Type: Full-time leadership position as Medical Director of the Mickey Shapiro 2 East Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (2E CVICU)
- Responsibilities:
- Lead clinical, educational, and research missions for the CVICU
- Implement a culture of high reliability, teamwork, and respect
- Drive quality improvement in STS metrics and CMS penalty domains
- Establish workflows to improve patient care quality and reduce length of stay
- Facilitate professional development for the CVICU APP team
- Partner with nursing leadership to advance workflows and care model development
- Support quality initiatives through participation in CVICU and broader hospital meetings
- Develop care models aligned with national benchmarks for quaternary CV surgery programs
- Clinical Scope:
- Perioperative care for approximately 700+ cardiovascular patients annually
- Support the CV Surgery programs five-year strategic plan, including LVAD shared care and Destination LVAD programs

**Qualifications**
- Medical Degree (MD/DO)
- Dual board certification in CV Anesthesiology and Critical Care (Required)
- Perioperative Echocardiography Board Certification (Preferred)
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proven ability to build trust, foster teamwork, and lead change effectively
- Experience managing quality improvement initiatives and operational impacts of healthcare policies
