Job Description

Last Update: 10/25/24

To our prospective teammates,

I’m the OB medical director for John Peter Smith Hospital located in Fort Worth, TX. I’ve been a part of Sound Medical Group for three years. I’m proud of the anesthesia practice we’ve built and welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or looking to make a career change. I want to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • We’re a closely knit, established team of 20 physicians and 57 CRNAs; 4 physicians being dedicated OB fellowship trained Anesthesiologists.
  • We are seeking a physician who has completed an OB Anesthesia Fellowship or has extensive high-risk OB experience.
  • This position will be dedicated to obstetric anesthesia work—no non-OB coverage during OB shifts. Additional Main OR coverage can be added for additional compensation outside of OB shifts.
  • Our team comprises clinicians from diverse geographic, educational, and training backgrounds who lean on and learn from each other in their approach to patient care.
  • We work closely with our CRNA colleagues within the hospital to provide the best anesthesia care possible for the Fort Worth community.
  • Fort Worth is the small-city feel in a big-city environment. We pride ourselves on not being Dallas, but a laid-back true to Texas small city. We are a great place to live and raise a family with safe schools and neighborhoods with great restaurants and museums.

Practice
  • The hospital is a level I trauma center with high-risk OB and Cardiothoracic cases. It offers 13 busy ORs, IR cases with critical patients in the EP lab, and GI and OB.
  • We have dedicated specialty chiefs to cover OB, Trauma, and Cardiac.
  • We are certified as Maternal Levels of Care Level IV – with a large high-risk population, necessitating that we provide 24-hour coverage with OB-trained anesthesiologists
  • Our delivery volumes have consistently increased in the past 3 years, currently at 4000+/year
  • We are a very active OB service – providing critical peripartum services to our patient population which includes a high-risk consult service, multi-disciplinary coordination of care, active PAS (placenta accreta spectrum) service, participation in multi-disciplinary safety drills, and providing lectures to the OB residents regularly
  • We work in EPIC, with access to our own internal informatics platform.
  • Yearly compensation is guaranteed at $500,000 + a $25,000 quality bonus incentive.
  • The schedule will be a workload of (7) 24-hour shifts in the OB unit (or equivalent 12-hour shifts) in a 4-week period.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
  • Our retention rate is high, and we work collaboratively within our team to ensure coverage for time off.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • We value and support growth and development in our hospital medicine practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and support involvement and contributions to community health and wellness in and out of the hospital.
