The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is seeking an accomplished, experienced clinical leader to join our team as Director of our Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain Service (AIPPS).
AIPPS, widely considered one of the largest acute pain services in the country, delivers 24-hour, high-quality perioperative pain management for UPMC’s surgical/trauma patients using a multidisciplinary approach at five hospital sites - UPMC Mercy, Passavant, Presbyterian, Shadyside, and Magee-Womens Hospital. Always striving to increase patient safety and satisfaction and quality of care, AIPPS is expanding the use of multimodal and regional anesthesia, with a mission to find and implement ways to improve acute pain care using an evidence-based system approach with regional anesthesia as our cornerstone. Through these initiatives, the service has been able to decrease length of stay, perioperative opioid use, and complications related to opioid use.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the quality and appropriateness of patient care within the Acute Pain Service.
- Participating in budgetary planning and developing patient care policies.
- Leading initiatives for quality improvement, staff education, and research.
- Serving on various committees and collaborating with department and hospital administration to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications
- Board-certified or equivalent in anesthesiology
- Fellowship training or equivalent experience in regional anesthesia and acute interventional perioperative pain management
- MBA, MMM, or other significant business and/or management training preferred
- Licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Appointment to the hospital’s active medical staff
- Appointment to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Faculty
- Proven administrative capabilities in leading a departmental site
- Proven commitment to clinical research
