Job Responsibilities
Physician wilI have the authority and the responsibility to supervise and direct alI anesthesia activities and operations for the Anesthesia Department (Department) at Piedmont Henry Hospital (Hospital)- including the development and implementation of treatment protocols and responsibility for total quality control of anesthesia services at the hospital and the general supervision or all anesthesia staff.
Job Responsibilities:
• Overall responsibility lor clinical oversight or anesthesia and related services at the hospital and services.
• Oversee the training and competencies for Department staff who provide or support anesthesia service at the hospital.
• Serve as an educational resource for the Hospital.
• Collaborate with Department management to develop appropriate staff coverage schedulesf<.w th anesthesia serves required at the Hospital.
• Serve on all appropriate medical/administrative committees relating to the provision or anesthesia services at the Hospital.
• Monitoring and oversight of support stall to ensure the proper performance and and conduct of anesthesia, services at the hospital.
• In collaboration with the lead CRNA/AA, ensure necessary supervision infrastructure is in place for al Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) providing anesthesia services at the Hospital, and provide clinical supervision of the APPs if the responsible physician is unavailable.
• OveralI responsibility and accountability for the Department meeting established performance standard for the Hospital.
• Communicate with Medical Staff regarding policies and procedures of the Department for the Hospital and any new procedures or changes in protocols.
• Assist administration in the strategic and business planning process for anesthesiology services in the Hospital.
• Collaborate with administration and participate in the budgeting process for the Hospital.
• Collaborate with administration, Medical Staff and support staff in meeting the requirements of regulatory agencies. accrediting organizations and professional societies, including, but not limited to: DNV, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Georgia Department of Public HeaIth. and federal conditions of participation.
• Ensure compliance with all Piedmont Healthcare corporate compliance policies and procedures.
• In consultation with the Director of Perioperative Services. oversee the evaluation of the surgical program at the Hospital and its related processes, including but not limited to (i) assessing the need and participating in the revision or time appropriation and planning for the surgical program: (ii) establishment and enforcement or medical and/or administrative policies and procedures.
• Develop a plan and coordinate the schedule of a reasonable rotation system resulting from the evaluation and changes ensuring adequate participation by Department anesthesiologists in 24/7/365 coverage for surgical anesthesia services at the Hospital.
• Overall responsibility for scheduling anesthesia and support staff coverage at the Hospital.
• Assist hospital with the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of the Department's professional staff (physicians and non-physicians) and members or Hospital Medical Staff w ho are credentialed in anesthesiology and provide services at the Hospital; make recommendations regarding the terms and condition of employment of the Department's professional staff who provide services at the Hospital: and make recommendations regarding the extension or renewal or Medical Staff privileges to physicians in the Department who provide services at the Hospital.
• Design and implement, and restructure as necessary. programs to assure reasonable financial performance of the anesthesia component of services at the Hospital through effective utilization of physical and financial resources and responsible accounting, including budgets and internal controls.
• Maintain a knowledge base or current developments in anesthesia and associated services, planning and implementing developments as appropriate by participating or being represented in community state, and national associations and professional activities.
• Establish and guide a high-quality array of anesthesia services that can effectively deal with the rapidIy changing health care marketplace through appropriate organization and effective delegation of duties and responsibilities.
• Analyze and work directly with physicians and medical groups who provide surgical services at the Hospital relative to the strengths and weaknesses of anesthesia service performance.
• Develop timely communication strategics to keep physicians. customers and staff informed of anesthesia developments.
• Provide regular feedback to Hospital and Physician Enterprise leackrship in the runctional area. regarding performance or anesthesia services and the surgical program. Assist those individuals i1 decision-making as it affects anesthesia services and the surgical progra111. l\:rlor111other services a. reasonably required by the Hospital. the Medical Start: or the Physician Enterprise.
• Oversight of the use of Moderate Sedation in the hospital, including review of all adverse events associated with Moderate Sedation. Provide quarterly reports of' evaluation or reversal agents during Moderate Sedation.
• Participate in Hospital's Perioperative Governance Council and related subcommittees including, but no limited to first Case On-Time Starts/Blocks and Robotics.
• Participate in Hospital's Trauma Program planning activities.
• Ensure all relevant parties participate in debrief process prior to procedure closure.
• Responsible for overall daily management of the Hospital's Operating Room Schedule Board.
• Provide direct cIinical oversight or the Hospital's Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
• Responsible for reviewing all anesthesia-related adverse events at the hospital, including providing
necessary feedback to relevant parties so corrective actions are implemented quickly and effectively.
• Ensure compliance with Perioperative Services policies.
Requirements & Highlights:
• BC/BE MD
• At least 3-5 years' experience
• Possess a skill set to perform perioperative anesthetic care and maintain medical management of patients pre- and postoperatively
• Ability to supervise and manage CRNAs on staff
• Epic EMR

Oversee and direct patient care provided by CRNAs or physicians
Oversee clinical operations, patient care initiatives and maintenance of strategic relationships with division and facility senior leadership, physicians and department leads
Facilitate relationships between physicians and APPs
Work alongside Chief of Anesthesia
As needed, recruitment of physician and CRNA providers in collaboration with the recruitment team
Ability to travel up to 50% as needed
