Position Overview:

Join us as The Aerospace Medicine Physician (Flight Surgeon) who will serve as MAJCOM SGPA, providing consultation and expert recommendations on the management, administration, and oversight of aeromedical programs for the Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC). This includes acting as an advisor on the execution of the Aerospace Medicine Enterprise for 11 AETC bases (Altus, Columbus, Goodfellow, Holloman, Joint Base San Antonio, Keesler, Laughlin, Luke, Maxwell, Sheppard, and Vance). The role requires specialized expertise in aerospace medicine standards, military medical regulations, and aeromedical evacuation protocols.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

The contracted physician will provide comprehensive aerospace medicine expertise including case review and risk assessment for the Force Development Exception to Policy board proceedings. The physician will review compliance of AME programs through the Management Internal Control Toolset and make recommendations on Flying Class physical waivers via the Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System. Additionally, the physician will provide consultation to the Personnel Reliability Assurance Program and Public Health Emergency Officer plans at AETC bases.
Physical Examination Responsibilities: The physician will review physical examination results and assess aeromedical risk factors for aviation personnel. This includes evaluating medical documentation for completeness and accuracy, recommending appropriate aeromedical dispositions, and ensuring compliance with Air Force and DoD medical standards. The Physician will make recommendations on Flying Class physical waivers and provide medical expertise during aeromedical examinations when required.
Medical Oversight Responsibilities: The position requires providing expert consultation on aeromedical policy implementation across multiple bases. The physician will evaluate medical standards compliance, recommend improvements to aeromedical programs, and assist in developing standardized approaches to common aeromedical issues. The physician will also provide consultation for the Personnel Reliability Assurance Program and support Public Health Emergency Officer plans at AETC bases.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an approved medical school.
Licensure: Board certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) in Aerospace Medicine preferred; certification in Family, Occupational, or General Preventive Medicine considered with adequate experience.
Experience: Proficiency with military medical standards and aeromedical programs.
Technical Skills:
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Proficiency with DoD information systems including MHS Genesis and various aeromedical data systems.
Comprehensive knowledge of military medical standards and regulations, including:

Soft Skills: Effective communication skills for conveying complex medical information to diverse audiences.

Working Hours

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 16:30 excluding federal holidays.
Each contract year requires 1,912 hours of physician services, this equates to approximately 37 hours a week. This is considered a Full-Time position. No pre-existing security clearance is required, though background investigations will be initiated.
