Direct Hire Urgent Care NP/PA Role in Carlsbad, New Mexico Job Title: Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Walk-In Clinic/Urgent Care Location: Carlsbad, NM Position Type: Full-time Reports To: Medical Director of Rural Health Clinic. Job Summary: The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)/Physician Assistant( PA) in Urgent Care provides immediate, high-quality medical care to patients with non-life-threatening conditions that require urgent attention. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of acute and chronic health issues. The FNP/PA works autonomously but in collaboration with a primary care team available to assist in the continuity of care. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Assessment and Management: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients presenting with acute and urgent medical conditions. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as labs, X-rays, EKGs, and other imaging as needed. Diagnose and manage a variety of conditions, including infections, injuries, minor trauma, and acute exacerbations of chronic illnesses. Treatment and Procedures: Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and initiating therapeutic interventions. Perform minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, and wound care. Provide emergency care for conditions such as asthma exacerbations, lacerations, and fractures within the scope of practice. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care measures. Offer guidance on follow-up care and when to seek additional medical attention. Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. Coordinate with specialists for referrals and further management of complex cases. Documentation and Compliance: Accurately document patient encounters, including history, assessment, treatment, and follow-up plans in electronic health records (EHR). Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, protocols, and regulatory requirements. Quality Improvement and Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety programs to enhance patient care and clinic operations. Stay current with best practices and advancements in urgent care medicine. Emergency Response: Provide immediate care for urgent medical situations and stabilize patients as needed. Respond to medical emergencies within the urgent care setting efficiently and effectively.
Qualifications: Education: Master's degree in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization. Master's Degree from accredited Physician Assistant Program. Licensure/Certification: Current FNP/PA license in NM; Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) or Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) preferred. Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience, preferably in urgent care, emergency medicine, or a similar setting. However, willing to train. Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and managing a wide range of urgent care conditions. Patients range from infants to geriatrics. Ability to suture and care for pediatric patients a plus. Strong clinical skills and ability to perform minor procedures. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with EHR systems and medical documentation. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for extended periods, lifting, and assisting patients as needed. Manual dexterity for performing procedures and handling medical equipment. Working Conditions:
  • Work in an urgent care setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases and various environmental conditions. May require occasional extended hours. No call. Work week is typically four 10 hour shifts per week. Facility opens at 7a
