Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-operative Care:
    • Perform patient histories and physical examinations.
    • Assess and evaluate patients for thoracic surgery procedures.
    • Assist in developing pre-operative care plans.
    • Educate patients about surgery procedures, risks, and recovery expectations.
    • Collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals in preparing patients for surgery.
  • Intra-operative Support:
    • Assist thoracic surgeons during surgery by providing surgical assistance (e.g., suturing, harvesting tissues, handling instruments).
    • Monitor the patient's condition during surgery and respond to changes in patient status.
    • Maintain sterile techniques and assist with positioning of patients.
  • Post-operative Care:
    • Monitor patients post-surgery for signs of complications (e.g., infection, bleeding, respiratory distress).
    • Manage patient pain and assist with the implementation of recovery plans.
    • Perform post-operative rounds and follow-up assessments to ensure optimal recovery.
    • Provide discharge instructions and educate patients and families about home care after thoracic surgery.
  • Collaborative Care:
    • Work alongside attending thoracic surgeons, surgical residents, nursing staff, and other medical professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and ensure seamless coordination of care.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Accurately document patient interactions, procedures, and progress in medical records.
    • Ensure that all actions comply with hospital policies, medical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Be prepared to respond to any post-operative emergencies or complications, including thoracic trauma, respiratory failure, or wound infections.

Qualifications

Board Certified PA (NCCPA) - REQUIRED
Active MI license - REQUIRED
Thoracic OR Experience - REQUIRED
Clean Background- REQUIRED
BLS, ACLS - REQUIRED

Working Hours

Shift Type: Days
Shift(s) Description: 4 days / week; 10-hour days
Weekend Requirements: NONE
On Call Requirements: ONE
