Job Summary:
The Physician Assistant-Cardiothoracic Specialty in the Surgical Services Department, as an integral member of the cardiothoracic team, will be involved in patient rounds in the ICU, Telemetry and patient care units. The PA will evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, treatment, and services consistent with surgical practice, including the performance of physical exams, diagnosing conditions, the development of treatment plans, health counseling, and prescribing medications for patients within the age group seen by the collaborating/ supervising physician. The PA may not admit patients to the hospital. May provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with policies. This person will also be responsible to function as first assistant in cardiac surgeries. The PA may function as second assist for patients on extracorporeal bypass. While the PA is subject to the medical direction and supervision of the Supervising Physician as required under California law when performing medical services, in all other respects the PA is subject to the Hospital's authority.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent: Preferred
- Two years' relevant clinical experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in state of practice: Required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification: Required
Essential Functions:
- Performs post op consults/visits. Performs post op monitoring of medications and lab work.
- Assists with review of transfers and inpatient evaluation. Assists in OR on cardiac/thoracic/vascular cases. Attends ICU daily rounds for cardiac patients when possible. Communicates and collaborates with interest and ICU team. Prepares for discharge.
- Schedules patient for post op clinic visit and cardiac rehabilitation in coordination with the CV leader.
- Attends and participates in monthly cardiology committee meetings. Participates in quality improvement efforts supporting evidence-based practice using STS data.
- Communicates and collaborates daily with CV program leader and team.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
The estimated base pay for this position is $153,251 to $229,877. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through years of experience, differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
