Intro
A New Jersey health system is seeking a Physician Assistant with neurosurgery experience to provide locum tenens coverage across two campuses—a major academic medical center and a community-based trauma facility. This role is a mix of inpatient and outpatient care, with varied responsibilities including rounding, consults, post-op follow-ups, and assistance in the OR. If trauma experience is limited, direct guidance and training will be provided by the lead neurosurgeon.

Schedule
  • Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Office/Clinical Breakdown:
  • Mon, Wed, Thurs: Outpatient AM, inpatient rounding PM
  • Tuesday: OR day
  • Friday: Pediatric neurosurgery rounds at HUMC
  • Call: None currently, but subject to provider need
  • Credentialing Time: TBD
  • Assignment Length: 12+ months (with strong possibility of extension or permanent interest)
    Key Responsibilities
    • Assist neurosurgeon in managing complex inpatient and outpatient cases
    • Perform daily rounds, patient education, consults, and documentation
    • First assist in the OR (primarily Tuesdays)
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary trauma and neurosurgical teams
    • Manage adult and pediatric neurosurgical patients under supervision
    • Support cervical, lumbar, and subdural hematoma case management
    • Serve as a key liaison between patients, families, and the surgical team
    Required Skills & Experience
    • Active New Jersey PA license
    • CDS and DEA certificates (must be current)
    • Neurosurgery or surgical subspecialty experience required
    • Trauma-level experience strongly preferred (training available)
    • Proficiency in:
    • Inpatient rounding and consults
    • Outpatient neurosurgical follow-ups
    • Pre- and post-operative assessments
    • Charting, order entry, and discharge planning
    • Interdisciplinary communication and care coordination
    • OR assisting and sterile technique
  • BLS and ACLS certifications preferred
