Our client, a nationally renowned academic medical center and integrated healthcare delivery system, is currently hiring a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Surgical Oncology team. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced PAs and new graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced surgical setting. The PA will play a key role in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care, working alongside surgeons, residents, and a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating Room (1 Day per Week):

  • First-assist in oncologic surgical procedures under the supervision of attending surgeons.
  • Provide intraoperative support, including patient positioning, retraction, and surgical assistance.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and OR efficiency.

Inpatient & Perioperative Care (3 Days per Week):

  • Conduct daily rounds on post-operative patients, monitor progress, and coordinate care plans.
  • Manage post-operative recovery, including pain control, wound care, and early complication detection.
  • Perform comprehensive preoperative assessments, including history-taking, physical exams, and risk evaluations.
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with nursing, oncology, radiology, and other specialties to ensure seamless transitions of care.

Consultations & Coordination:

  • Participate in new patient consults and assist in treatment planning with the surgical oncology team.
  • Review imaging, pathology, and lab results to guide clinical decision-making.
  • Facilitate referrals and multidisciplinary case discussions to optimize patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Certified (PA-C) and licensed (or eligible) in New York
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply; training and mentorship will be provided
  • Strong interest in surgical procedures and patient management
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment
