We are seeking two skilled Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs) to join our General Surgery team. This high-priority, full-time position involves covering floor management, consults, ER admissions, and serving as a first assistant in general surgery cases. The role also includes on-call responsibilities alongside an attending surgeon.

Floor Management

  • Conduct daily patient rounds, including placing orders, writing progress notes, and communicating daily plans with attendings and nursing staff.
  • Manage patient discharges, including preparation of instructions, summaries, and orders.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as dressing changes and removal of drains/NGTs.

Consults and ER Admissions

  • Evaluate consults in the ER or those admitted to other primary services.
  • Perform comprehensive physical exams and communicate findings with the on-call attending for operative planning.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and orders.

Operative Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first assistant in general surgery cases, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care for surgical patients.

Qualifications

Board Status: Board Certified
State License: Must have an active Pennsylvania license.
Certifications: BLS and CPR required.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care or general surgery settings.
DEA License: Required.

Working Hours

Friday: 4:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM (including morning rounding from ~7:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
On-Call Responsibilities: 30-minute response time with beeper; average admissions during on-call are minimal.

Skills

Proficiency in Epic EMR for charting and documentation.
Strong communication skills for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to perform bedside procedures and assist in surgical cases.
Experience with ER consults and admissions is highly preferred.
