We are seeking two experienced Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PA) for a locum tenens opportunity in General Surgery. This role involves floor management, ER admissions, consults, and first-assist duties during surgical procedures.
  • Beds: Acute care hospital setting.
  • Support Staff: Available APP/Mid-Level support.
  • Travel: Mileage (personal vehicle), airfare, lodging, parking, rental car, fuel, and ground transportation provided.
  • Privileges: Full privileges available (approximately 90 days to credential).
  • Preferred Candidate: Local candidates preferred, but providers requiring travel will also be considered.

Job Responsibilities

Patient Management: Perform daily rounds, place orders, document progress notes, and communicate with attendings/nursing staff on care plans.
Discharge Management: Handle patient discharges, including instructions, summaries, and orders.
Consults/Admissions: Evaluate ER consults or admitted patients with comprehensive physical exams, documentation, and operative planning discussions with the attending physician.
Surgical Assistance: Serve as first assistant in general surgery cases (open, laparoscopic, and robotic). Provide pre- and post-operative care.
Bedside Procedures: Perform dressing changes, drain/NGT removals, and other bedside tasks.

Qualifications

Board Status: Board Certified.
Licensure: Active Pennsylvania state medical license.
Certifications: BLS, CPR.
DEA License: Required.
Experience: Minimum 2 years in General Surgery or related field.

Working Hours

Shifts:
Fridays: 4 PM - 7 AM.
Saturdays & Sundays: 7 AM - 7 AM (includes rounding ~7 AM-12 PM).

Skills

Experience as a first-assist in open, laparoscopic, and robotic general surgery cases.
Ability to perform bedside procedures and manage daily patient care.
Proficient in Epic EMR charting.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with attendings and support staff.
