In collaboration with the attending physician, prepares and records patient history, develops and implements a plan of care, participates in daily rounds on assigned patients and documents the pertinent symptoms, findings, diagnoses and care plans. Utilizes electronic medical record for order entry and documentation. Participates in multidisciplinary rounding, responds to coding and documentation queries and participates as requested in quality and safety initiatives.



PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Orders or performs diagnostic studies such as, but not limited to, EMG, electrocardiogram, compartment pressure measurements, and x-ray examinations including special x­ray examinations CT, MRI, and bone scans etc.
    • Performs procedures such as, but not limited to, digital blocks, regional anesthesia, and minor outpatient surgical procedures such as but not limited to: tendon repair, wound closure, wound management, wound debridement, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning of fractures, k-wire removal and hardware removal.
    • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints, tendons, trigger points and bursa, as well as brace, cast and splint applications.
    • Assists in surgery to include but not limited to, first assist, deep and superficial tissue closures, application of appliances and any other action delegated by the surgeon. Conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, and otherwise assists the Orthopedic surgeon.
    • Serves as primary orthopedic call for Bay Area Hospital’s patients in the Emergency Department and various inpatient units. Will participate in call coverage along with other employed and non-employed PA’s and NP’s including regular weekday, weekend and 24-hour call. May be asked to rotate schedule to provide call during holiday, weekend and night coverage.
    • Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions, formulates and implements a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, dictates discharge summaries, histories and physicals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Proficiency with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift
    • Ability to work independently and perform effectively in stressful and/or emergent situation
