Reporting to the Director of Development, Medicine/Surgery in the Office of Institutional Advancement, the Assistant Director of Development (AD) will provide day-to-day management and support of fundraising efforts for key service lines in the departments of Medicine and Surgery, including but not limited to, cardiovascular fundraising. The AD maintains an active portfolio of major gift and leadership annual giving prospects and manages these relationships through the full donor cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation; solicitation; gift closure; and stewardship of assigned prospects.

As a key member of Jefferson’s fundraising team, the AD will support the work of the Director and AVP and work with physician partners, Department Chairs and Division Chiefs to develop and implement fundraising strategies for assigned service lines; translate Jefferson and service line priorities into appropriate major gift fundraising opportunities; establish and implement a long term development plan to support the program’s continued growth; collaborate and work closely with physician leadership in identifying and responding to gift opportunities; and maintain the flow of information about these priorities throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In collaboration with the advancement team and clinical faculty, support the priorities of cardiovascular fundraising efforts.
  • Personally maintain a portfolio of individual gift prospects, maintaining frequent and consistent contact with prospects, department leaders and volunteers, and key members of Jefferson’s administrative leadership. Maintain and manage this portfolio in a manner that fosters a relationship that leads to philanthropic commitment.
  • In collaboration with the Director, AVP, and other team members, develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, research, clinical and financial needs and goals of assigned clinical programs; establish, maintain, and grow a highly responsive and collaborative development program to meet these needs/goals.
  • Responsibility for strategy execution and the achievement of defined performance goals.
  • Manage a prospect pool of 120+ individuals
  • Conduct a minimum of 125 Meaningful Donor Encounters per year
  • Generate 2 proposal per month > $10K (minimum 24/yr)
  • Provides planning and logistical support for physician and benefactor meetings.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of professional experience required. _______________________________________________________________________

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-4 years of direct or related fundraising experience, preferably with experience in a complex organization. Healthcare experience is a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Fundraising experience in the area of individual gifts development, annual or corporate and foundation giving is desirable. Familiarity with planned giving concepts is a plus.
  • A successful candidate must be comfortable making a heavy volume of phone calls including cold calling potential prospects.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies. Comfort communicating with and soliciting prospects/benefactors.
  • Ability to articulate, both written and orally, a compelling case for major philanthropic support for clinical programs, presenting objectives persuasively to potential donors.
  • Experience with fundraising databases/CRMs preferred.
  • Possess the ability to work independently, as well as cohesively as a member of the team.

Ability and willingness to work occasional night and weekend hours. Ability and willingness to travel within the Philadelphia region. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, however the incumbent must be able to travel to campus as needed.
