A healthcare facility in Mishawaka, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant with expertise in cardiothoracic surgery. This role involves first-assist duties in the OR, vein harvesting, inpatient rounding, and collaboration with an experienced surgical team. The provider will have no office responsibilities and will only be on call for OR cases.
Key Details:
- Pay Rate: $110/hour
- Start Date: ASAP
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Call Requirements: One day per week, covering OR only
- Documentation System: Epic
- Patient Load: ~10 outpatients and 5-8 inpatients per day
- Procedures Required: Vein harvesting (Maquet system), first-assist duties in surgery

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide first-assist support in cardiothoracic surgery
- Perform vein harvesting using the Maquet system
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient management
- Manage inpatient rounding and collaborate with the surgical team
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and coordinate treatment with referring physicians
- Perform wound care, chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, and suture/staple removal
Job Responsibilities

Qualifications
Active Indiana license at the time of submission
Experience in Maquet vein harvesting – Required
First-assist surgical experience – Required
Must meet all credentialing requirements
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
Working Hours
Call Coverage: One day per week (OR only)
Skills
Proficiency in vein harvesting using the Maquet system
Experience managing inpatient rounding and pre/postoperative care
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating with the surgical team
