Ghost RX is hiring a Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) to provide specialized medical services at the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The primary focus of this role is to assist in cardiovascular surgery, with a significant emphasis on endovascular vein harvest during open-heart surgeries. Any state license is accepted.
Period of Performance
The period of performance for this contract is one year, with the option for renewal based on performance and hospital needs.
Work Hours
The PA will work a standard 40-hour week, with the possibility of on-call duties as required by the surgical schedule.

Job Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including patient history and physical examinations.
- Explain surgical procedures, risks, and benefits to patients and their families.
- Obtain informed consent for surgical procedures.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize preoperative patient care.
4.2 Intraoperative Duties
- Assist cardiovascular surgeons during open-heart surgeries.
- Perform endovascular vein harvesting with precision and adherence to surgical protocols.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall status during surgery.
- Ensure the sterile field is maintained and surgical instruments are correctly handled.
4.3 Postoperative Duties
- Provide postoperative care, including monitoring for complications and managing patient recovery.
- Conduct postoperative rounds, evaluate patient progress, and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Educate patients and families on postoperative care, including wound care, medication management, and follow-up appointments.
4.4 Administrative and Additional Duties
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including surgical notes and postoperative reports.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical protocols.
- Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, case reviews, and continuing education sessions.
- Comply with all VA hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- State licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery, with specific expertise in endovascular vein harvesting.
- BLS and ACLS certification.
