Locums - Wyoming, Minnesota, NP/PA Pediatrics Opening Clinical Role:

    • Opportunity to do circumcisions in clinic while covering inpatient service but not required.
    • Coverage Dates Needed: November and December schedule can be made with locum provider preferences in mind. Possible need for coverage though the first 1-2 weeks in January. Coverage includes holidays and weekends, again, with preferences in mind, but typically 2 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per month. Weekends can be done as 48-hour shifts or 24-hour shifts.
    • Department Shift Schedule: Ideally 6 (24-hour) shifts per month. 24-hour inpatient coverage with shifts beginning at 7am and ending at 7am the next day.
    • Type of patients / cases / procedures required:
      • Level 1 nursery newborns, however we do typically keep newborns with hypoglycemia requiring D10W infusion, iii requiring antibiotics, mild-moderate respiratory distress for a period not to exceed 6 hours (in collaboration with NICU). Any newborn exceeding these needs would be transferred to NICU (30-60 minutes away)
      • Attend deliveries for higher risk patients- meconium, category II tracing, vacuum, late-preterm, etc. or as requested by RN/OB staff. Perform neonatal resuscitation as needed in accordance with NRP.
      • Pediatric inpatients who meet criteria for admission to community hospital, i.e. not requiring subspecialty care or PICU.
      • Consult in ED/urgent care as needed.
      • Occasional weekend newborn visits for bili/weight checks.
      • Take after hours nurse triage calls that are escalated to provider (0-3 per shift typically).
      • Scrub in as second assist for C-sections that occur after hours or as requested by OB. Once an infant is delivered the priority in this role is the care of the newborn. Training can be provided.
      • Ideally perform circumcisions but not required.
      • Patient Encounters per shift: 2-10
      • Available support staff: On site: nursing staff, 24-hour in-house RT, 24-hour in-house CRNA, Tele-NICU, ED MD’s and RN’s respond to all code blue, lab, radiology, pharmacy. Pediatric hospitalist and pediatric subspecialists available by phone through M-Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital
    • Certifications required (board certification or life support, etc.): PNP. NRP, BLS, and PALS certifications required.
    • Comfortable call room on site with workspace and television. The bathroom and shower are next to the call room. The provider lounge is adjacent with additional workspaces, couches, television, and kitchenette.
    • Colleagues are 3 NP’s who have all been in the role for >6 years. All are able and willing to answer any questions as they arise and provide for orientation needs.
    • Most of your time will be spent in the birthplace. Birthplace nurses care for L&D patients, post-partum, and peds patients. Between 450-550 deliveries per year. Small volume of peds patients (only about 40-50 per year).
    • Ideal Candidate / Most Desirable Qualifications: Experience with newborns, attending deliveries and inpatient pediatrics. Familiarity with community hospital setting.

    • Schedule: 7a-7a inpatient coverage
    • Types of Cases: Level 1 nursery newborns, attend deliveries for high-risk patients, pediatric inpatient coverage, after hour nurse triage calls
