Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Orthopedic Surgery team in Coos Bay, OR. This full-time position includes a day shift schedule with shared on-call responsibilities. The role is expanding due to the growth of our services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surgical Assistance: Assist in surgery, including first assist, deep and superficial tissue closures, and application of appliances.

  • Emergency & Inpatient Care: Perform ED consults, hospital rounds, patient assessments, and collaborate with orthopedic surgeons.

  • Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Educate patients, conduct follow-ups, and manage patient progress.

  • Diagnostic Procedures: Order and interpret tests such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, EMG, and electrocardiograms.

  • Therapeutic Interventions: Perform joint and bursa aspirations, injections, fracture reductions, brace and cast applications.

  • Minor Outpatient Procedures: Execute wound closures, tendon repair, incision and drainage, hardware removal, and regional anesthesia.

  • On-Call Duties: Participate in a rotating call schedule covering emergency and inpatient orthopedic needs.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Licensure & Certification: Active, clear license, DEA certification, and board certification.

  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years preferred in orthopedic surgery or related fields.

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in performing diagnostic studies and surgical procedures such as wound debridement, k-wire removal, and percutaneous pinning of fractures.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams.

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Experience with Epic preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 75 lbs).

  • Quick response times to emergent patient needs.

  • Exposure to bodily fluids; adherence to standard precautions required.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in person and via telephone.
